We manufacture the roller shutter doors we install, which is why a Brakpan order gets built to the opening instead of trimmed to fit one. Openings here are rarely standard: Vulcania carries industrial buildings that are decades old, the entertainment and hospitality buildings on the N17 have service openings built to their own drawings, and a great many smaller premises were formed by whoever owned the building at the time.
Roller shutter doors manufactured for Brakpan sites
Curtain, guides, barrel, bottom rail and drive are specified together, from the opening size and the duty the door has to carry. Nothing is decided by what happened to be in stock.
- Curtain gauge and profile chosen for span, wind load and cycle count.
- Guide depth set so a knocked curtain stays in its channel.
- Barrel and shaft sized on deflection across the actual span.
- Drive matched to the duty, from manual chain to three-phase tube and side motors.
Wind loading on exposed Brakpan sites
This town is flat, high and open, and wind load is a real design input rather than a line in a brochure. A wide curtain on an exposed yard sees pressures that a sheltered town-centre opening never does, and the answer is heavier gauge, deeper guides and wind locks rather than hoping. We ask which way the opening faces and what is upwind of it before we specify the door.
Doors for the Vulcania industrial belt
Vulcania and the surrounding industrial ground carry manufacturing, engineering and warehousing in buildings that predate the current door profiles. We measure what is actually there, assess the steel around the opening as part of the job, and build a door to suit the building in its present condition rather than the one on the original drawing.
Doors for 24-hour hospitality and entertainment sites
The large entertainment and hotel complex on the N17 runs continuously, and its service, delivery, plant and cash-handling openings never get a convenient shutdown. Doors for those positions are specified for constant duty, quiet operation near guest areas, and a security standard that matches what is behind them. Work is planned into the small hours because that is the only window there is.
Materials and finishes
Galvanised steel is the working default and copes with the grit and weather that comes across open ground. Aluminium, perforated and transparent curtains are built for the retail frontages at Carnival Mall and the Brakpan CBD trading streets, where the window has to keep working after closing.
Measuring and manufacturing lead times
We measure on site. A drawing measurement is a starting point, not a manufacturing instruction. Standard galvanised doors run two to three weeks from approved measurements; fire-rated units, insulated curtains and specials run longer, and we say so before you commit.
Getting a manufacturing quote in Brakpan
Send the opening width and height, tell us what the door has to do, how often it will run and how exposed the position is. Manufacture, delivery and installation are quoted as separate lines.
